Yellow fever

An international vaccination certificate is required from travellers arriving from, or passing through, countries with a risk of transmission. Travellers flying directly from the Nordic countries do not need one.

⚠️ Compulsory vaccination (yellow fever)

A valid International Certificate of Vaccination against Yellow Fever is required from all travellers arriving from (or transiting through) countries with a risk of yellow fever transmission.

Stopover in a risk country

Stopover in Addis Ababa, Nairobi or Luanda: the certificate is only required if the transit lasts more than 12 hours or if you leave the airport.

No

Direct flight from the Nordic countries

Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway are not risk countries. Without a stopover in a risk country, no certificate is required.

Validity and exemptions

One dose, for lifeSince 2016 the certificate is valid for the lifetime of the holder. No booster is needed.
10 days before travelThe certificate only becomes valid 10 days after vaccination. Book the vaccine in good time.
Infants under 9 monthsAre not vaccinated and no certificate is required for them.
Medical contraindicationTravellers who cannot be vaccinated carry a medical exemption letter, in English, on headed paper.

Where to get vaccinated in the Nordic countries

The yellow fever vaccine is only given at authorised vaccination centres. Book in good time: the certificate only becomes valid 10 days after vaccination.

ℹ️ Bring the original certificate. Bring the original yellow booklet (International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis), not a copy. It is checked by the health services at the border, before passport control.
